{"id":6157,"date":"2016-03-14T14:49:08","date_gmt":"2016-03-14T13:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/en\/?p=6157"},"modified":"2019-02-14T15:40:34","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T14:40:34","slug":"content-reusage-workflow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/en\/content\/content-reusage-workflow\/","title":{"rendered":"Repurposing Content: The Content Reusage Workflow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As this afternoon I&#8217;ll give an SEO training to one of my client&#8217;s content team, I wanted to share with you a specific scenario I&#8217;m including and making emphasis for: <strong>Content Reusage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the past I&#8217;ve written and shared about Content and SEO:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A few weeks ago in this &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/aleydasolis\/seo-for-content-better-together-amaveseo-58671807\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEO &amp; Content<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0presentation with the American Marketing Association online event.<\/li>\n<li>In this <a href=\"http:\/\/calq.com\/blog\/identifying-content-opportunities-that-will-connect-with-your-audience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Calq Webinar<\/a> from a few weeks ago about identifying content opportunities that will connect with your audience.<\/li>\n<li>And from longer ago, my BrightonSEO presentation about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/aleydasolis\/how-to-leverage-content-curation-in-seo-brightonseo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Content Curation<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Or post about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/blog\/identifying-blog-topics-relevant-to-your-audience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">identifying content ideas for your blog posts<\/a> at Moz.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The usual process and steps are that you analyze the current successful content\u00a0(the one that has converted better, attracted more visibility and traffic, got more links and shares, etc.) from your own properties, your competitors and overall industry -that you can expand by analyzing your own industry in other countries or similar industries-, and find potential related or similar topics that you can use to better connect with your audience by fulfilling their questions\u00a0and\u00a0interests around your area, business, product or service.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d1avok0lzls2w.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/blog\/56d30a55c95170.05539215.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"738\" height=\"419\" data-verified=\"redactor\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The usual &#8220;challenge&#8221;, especially in mature, competitive industries comes when you identify that most of the topics you would like to\u00a0write about have been already covered not only once, but many times with different types of articles, guides, posts, Webinars, videos, etc. in different ways, not only by your competitors, but also yourself in the past.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What criteria do you use and process you follow to identify if there are still opportunities to provide value to your online audience by writing\u00a0about a\u00a0topic that has been already covered?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a workflow I&#8217;ve created\u00a0to identify the best option to target the topic again, reusing the content:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-17495\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/content-reusage-v2-v3-1024x958.png\" alt=\"Content Reusage\" width=\"1024\" height=\"958\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/content-reusage-v2-v3-1024x958.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/content-reusage-v2-v3-300x281.png 300w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/content-reusage-v2-v3-768x719.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You can download the\u00a0the graph in better quality <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/images\/content-reusage-v2.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">from here<\/a>.\u00a0I&#8217;ve already followed this approach\u00a0in a few opportunities with the following results:<\/p>\n<h3>1. Updating Content<\/h3>\n<p>I published an\u00a0SEO friendly CMS checklist,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/en\/search-engine-optimization\/seo-friendly-cms-checklist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Initially in 2012<\/a>\u00a0and did\u00a0a new version last year with a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stateofdigital.com\/cms-seo-requirements-checklist-2015-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2015 Edition<\/a>, results were not bad at all:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6167\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/cms-seo-links-social-1024x478.png\" alt=\"CMS SEO Criteria Results\" width=\"1024\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/cms-seo-links-social-1024x478.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/cms-seo-links-social-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/cms-seo-links-social-768x358.png 768w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/cms-seo-links-social.png 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>2. Expanding Content<\/h3>\n<p>A few years ago I did a presentation at MozCon about<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/aleydasolis\/seo-project-management-mozcon-2012-by-aleyda-solis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEO Project Management<\/a>\u00a0that I followed up to with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/blog\/the-seo-project-management-jedi-challenge-may-the-seopm-force-be-with-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a test<\/a>\u00a0to verify what\u00a0people had learned from it.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Reformatting Content<\/h3>\n<p>There was an insightful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optimizesmart.com\/roi-calculations-seo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Post<\/a>\u00a0from Himanshu about how to calculate SEO ROI based on which I created a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/english\/international-seo-tools\/roi-calculator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Calculator<\/a>\u00a0(giving the relevant references of course). Something similar with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/english\/international-seo-tools\/hreflang-tags-generator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hreflang generator<\/a> tool based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/webmasters\/answer\/189077\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">specifications<\/a> provided by Google.<\/p>\n<p>Both of them are some of the\u00a0most important landing pages of my site, especially the hreflang generator:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/hreflang-generator-results-1024x151.png\" alt=\"hreflang generator tool\" width=\"1024\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/hreflang-generator-results-1024x151.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/hreflang-generator-results-300x44.png 300w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/hreflang-generator-results-768x113.png 768w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/hreflang-generator-results.png 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>4. Curating Content<\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;ve curated content quite a few times:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I created a site called<strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whymywebtrafficdropped.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Why my Web Traffic Dropped<\/a>\u00a0with a list of criteria to check when you lose traffic in order to identify the cause<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.themarketertoolbox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Marketer Toolbox<\/a>\u00a0(which is an expansion\u00a0of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allseosoftware.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">All SEO Software<\/a>) gathering online marketing tools<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allseoguidelines.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">All SEO guidelines<\/a> with direct accesses to official SEO guidelines of search engines<\/li>\n<li>I created a <a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/blog\/achieving-an-seo-friendly-domain-migration-the-infographic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">checklist with SEO criteria to take into consideration to do a successful Web migration<\/a><\/li>\n<li>And an <a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/blog\/the-international-seo-checklist\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International SEO checklist<\/a> with the fundamental steps to take<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/marketer-toolbox-results-1024x159.png\" alt=\"The Marketer Toolbox Results\" width=\"1024\" height=\"159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/marketer-toolbox-results-1024x159.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/marketer-toolbox-results-300x47.png 300w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/marketer-toolbox-results-768x119.png 768w, https:\/\/www.aleydasolis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/marketer-toolbox-results.png 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As you can see, content doesn&#8217;t need to be about a completely new topic in order to be successful and connect with your audience in a relevant and meaningful way that provides value.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Do you have any additional use cases, examples or alternatives for content reusage?
