It is very well known the importance of web statistics systems as they allow us to track and get to know the behaviour of our website’s users and be able to optimize and take the appropiate decisions to increment the conversion rate and return of investment.
Nowadays the free statistics system Google Analytics is one of the most popular and used thanks to its ease of installation and use. Nonetheless there is a great offer of others statistics tools that provide additional complementary functionalities than Google Analytics or the traditional server-side statistics systems that analyze the log file information, like AWStats or Webalizer.
Let’s see some of the most important and interesting Web statistics tools -besides Google Analytics-:
You can easily install Clicky adding a javascript snippet in your website code. Clicky allows you to access your statistics information from your web control panel, apply filters, view each visitor actions plus it has released a developer API and among other functionalities that have been published in a comparison table with other similar systems characteristics. Enquisite is a free statistics system focused on your website activity in the search engines and pay per clic campaigns. With an online control panel Enquisite provides information about the search engines referred visits, “the long tail” keywords and other important information for search engine optimization purposes.
SiteMeter is a statistics systems similar to Clicky but with less functionalities, that allows to track in real time your website’s visits details. You can easily install SiteMeter by adding a script in your website code and you can access your statistics from an online control panel. StatCounter gathers the most important information about your website’s visitors. You can easily install it by adding a script in your website code. StatCounter -as the other statistics systems- allows you to access your statistics information from an online control panel and it is free for webs that have a maximum of 250,000 pageviews, with a log file of 500. RobotReplay allows to record and watch the visitors sessions in your website, the mouse movement and interaction which is very useful to take decisions around its optimization. RobotPlay is free and easy to install adding a Javascript in the code of your web. You can watch a RobotPlay demo here.
ClickTale is similar to RobotPlay, it records the visitors behaviour that you can later watch to take the appropiate decisions to enhance your website usability. ClickTale gives you the possibility to establish the amount of visitors percentage you want to record and it is also easy to install: you just have to add a couple of scripts in your website code. ClickTale is free if you want to take up to 100 records every week in a maximum of 2 domains. For a higher capacity and additional functionalities -like be able to make records of HTTPS pages- ClickTale has optional “premium” plans.
You can easily install CrazyEgg by adding its javascript snippet in your website code. It allows you to see where do your visitors click on your website and the clicks quantity and percentages for each element. FeedBurner not only allows visitors to subscribe to your RSS feeds, podcasts and blogs content through email but also gives statistics information about these, like the amount of daily subscribers and the RSS readers they use.
There are also other tools with excellent functionalities like Mint or 103bees, but they don’t have a basic or free version.
